Woman Falsely Claims to be Victim of Boston Marathon to Scam $480 Thousand.

The One Fund is a Boston based charity created to collect donations and support for the many victims of the tragic 2013 Boston Marathon bombings. 26 year-old Andrea Gause apparently has no shame. She attempted to scam the charity out of nearly half a million dollars by falsely claiming that she was injured by the explosion.  The woman also had an outstanding fugitive warrant in her hometown of Troy, NY and was arrested on July 19, 2013 and charged with larceny over $250.

The fatal April 15th terrorist explosion tragedy left hundreds injured. The families of those who were killed or injured have relied on the One Fund to support them during their time of need. The charity is a saving grace for them, and yet individuals like Gause have sought to exploit it for their own personal financial gain.

Gause used fake medical documents in her attempt to swindle the charity out of $480,000.  She claimed that she had been hurt near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, adding that she had been admitted to a Boston hospital with a traumatic brain injury. She also falsely claimed that she had then been transferred to a New York hospital for continued treatment for severe injuries sustained in the bombing. The fake documents asserted that she required treatment at an Albany hospital, and that she suffered from long-term memory loss, impaired speech and loss of motor function, and that she would need future surgery as well.   Her claim was approved by the One Fund and paid in June.  Thereafter, the attorney general received a tip that she was not even in Boston on April 15th, and further investigation revealed that she had not ever checked into any hospitals as she had claimed.
