On the west coast of Italy, in the small port of Livorno, an explosion has claimed the lives of two maintenance workers. The two men were working a job and conducting routine maintenance on a unit at the port which was believed to have been emptied. The two men were employed by the local environmental service company Labromare. One resident said that the explosion was loud enough to be heard for miles.

After emergency crews arrived on the scene, they found that one of the victims, a 52 year-old, had died instantly from the blast, while the other, a 25 year-old, was alive; but all attempts to resuscitate the man failed, and he died as well.  The unit the two men were conducting maintenance on was located at the Neri industrial depot. This particular unit was believed to have contained a flammable substance called ethyl acetate which led to the explosion.  At this time, no reports have been made as to why the unit had not been emptied as reported.
