Explosion at Colorado Marijuana Oil Lab Results in Criminal Charges.

Police in Colorado Springs, CO responded to reports of an explosion at an apartment complex on Saturday, March 1, discovering an apparent drug lab in the process.

Police received reports of the explosion at an apartment complex on the 300 block of University drive near Airport Road around 9:45 PM on Saturday.

When police and firefighters arrived on the scene, they found 51-year-old Lee Ray Brown, who admitted that he lived in the apartment where the explosion occurred.  Police then entered Brown’s apartment, where they found evidence that Brown was using butane fuel to make hash oil, a substance extracted from marijuana that is highly potent.  Police believe Brown was in the process of making hash oil when the butane fuel ignited, which caused the explosion.

Police arrested Brown and charged him with numerous drug-related offenses, including unlawful possession and manufacturing of a controlled substance, offenses relating to marijuana and marijuana concentrate; keeping, maintaining, controlling, renting or making available property for unlawful distribution or manufacture of controlled substances, and reckless endangerment.  Police also believe Brown was working with a partner, an unidentified 29-year-old male.  It is unclear whether Brown’s partner was arrested or charged.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the explosion.
